I think as we get older we become much more aware of the different seasons, and for me, they represent the cycle of life, spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
My present is autumn. I look back at the spring and summer and I see winter ahead. This reflective journey has made me realise that no matter what stage you are at, you can still be struggling with the same human issues; be they fear, anxiety, lack of confidence, loss, illness, or regret.
Every thought we have is affected by our upbringing and our past experiences and without careful management, we can feel very stuck. When we start to think about that it can seem very overwhelming. It can feel as if we have no roadmap and we are lost, with no sight of a destination.
Our past experiences shape us, but it doesn’t need to define us. It’s about using those past experiences to help propel us forward. The past can be nostalgic and warming, however, it can also be a stone around our necks. It’s about getting the balance right and learning to re-calibrate our internal compass, the subconscious mind so that we can be free from the weight and start to fly.
How can Hypnotherapy help with past experiences?
Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious part of our mind. This is where our memories are stored and the subconscious works away in the background matching thoughts with actions and learned behaviours, as well as maintaining our habits. It is different from other talking therapies because it doesn’t rely on the conscious thought process, which deals with symptoms on an intellectual level. Hypnotherapy addresses negative habits and learned behaviours permanently and quickly, by releasing limiting beliefs and shifting focus.
It’s a powerful therapy for personal development as well as being relaxing and enjoyable too. When we visualise how we want to be, it strengthens the neural pathways in the brain, which will then improve health and happiness. Visualisation provides confidence and insights. Anything you can imagine, you can then create!
I work with children, adolescents, young adults, the middle-aged, and the elderly. We all have issues, no matter what season of life we are in. Events from our ‘spring’ can still be affecting us in our ‘autumn’ or ‘winter’.
My own past experiences have made me who I am today. Without it, I couldn’t do the work that I love. It grounds me. However, I am mindful that I don’t look back too much and I live in the present, looking forward and grateful for every day.
Hypnotherapy has empowered me to create the life I now live. We can’t always be fixed, but we can heal and feel better and that is my mantra: Think better. Feel better. Live better.
