Most of us know how it feels to be stressed, worried or nervous about something. Usually these feelings come and go, however, for people that suffer from anxiety, these feelings last longer and can be much more intense.
Hypnotherapy for anxiety aims to seek the real cause of the problem and change your relationship with anxiety for the long term.
What is anxiety?
You may have heard of the ‘fight or flight’ response which the body has to protect itself. If our brains perceive a threat or danger it releases hormones to prepare us to fight or run away. The official name for these hormones are adrenaline and cortisol.
The body has these reactions built-in however, in our modern day lives, we generally have less need for it nowadays. But, for many, the body reacts in these ways when there is no physical danger. When this occurs, we often have no idea how to make it stop. This is anxiety and it can really affect your daily life.
Signs of anxiety
Anxiety can manifest itself in many ways. The common symptoms are overthinking, headaches, chest pain, dizziness, difficulty sleeping, faster breathing, teeth grinding and restlessness to name a few.
The 3 main types of anxiety disorders
- Panic disorder – described as intense feelings of terror that can strike suddenly without warning. This is often referred to as panic attacks or individuals are afraid of having a panic attack.
- Social anxiety disorder – this involves extreme feelings of anxiety and discomfort in social situations.
- General anxiety disorder (GAD) – when anxiety can interfere with daily life when worrying about family, money and health.
