burnout recovery

In our hypnotherapy work, we often see clients who are struggling with burnout and seeking our help in coming to terms with what this actually means.

Burnout is a commonly misused term; it is very different from tiredness, depression or anxiety (although these can be symptoms). It results from chronic workplace stress, and sufferers display energy depletion, increased mental distance and negativity towards their job. It can affect anyone.

When we expend more internal resources than we restore, we can find ourselves overloaded, which can result in a loss of meaning, a disconnection from self, physical exhaustion, inability to sleep, and very anxious, panicky feelings.

It is like getting into a car for a journey, where everything around you looks and feels the same, but when you put your foot on the pedal, you do not move. Whatever you try, you fail to make progress, which can feel deeply destabilising and frightening.

Acknowledging that something has changed is key, and realising that what you need is to reset and understand that doing things the way you used to is no longer effective.

So how do we help ourselves when we reach this place?  Resting alone is not enough. Recovery involves genuinely replenishing energy, both physically and emotionally, in order for your nervous system to regulate itself.

How Hypnotherapy can help with Burnout Recovery

Hypnotherapy is a very calming and restorative therapy that uses hypnosis, a trance-like state, to help you achieve lasting change and recovery. Once you are nicely relaxed, we work with the subconscious part of the mind – the part that underlies most of what we think and feel every day – where all our learned behaviours, fears and habits live.

During hypnosis, the subconscious mind becomes very receptive to positive suggestion and can be re-programmed with your preferred way of being – your preferred response.  This enables us to reset your nervous system going forward.

With burnout, we focus on prioritising and establishing boundaries so you feel more on top of things, as well as on relaxation techniques to help you achieve a deep, restful calm when you sleep.
