Fear of death

The fear of death (Thanatophobia) or death anxiety is the fear of one’s death or the process of dying. It may be linked to anxiety, PTSD, panic attacks and health anxiety disorders.
Panic attacks create a fear of dying due to a lack of control, and people who suffer from health anxiety, becoming ill and worrying about their health, are also more likely to have this fear.
In my practice, I often work with young professionals struggling with a family member’s illness, who find their anxiety escalates into panic attacks and a sense of doom.
Anxiety about dying is understandable and a normal part of the human condition. For many people, it’s not something they give much thought to unless they have perhaps been recently bereaved, been seriously unwell or suffered a near-death experience or something that has caused panic attacks and PTSD. However, for others thinking about their own death or the process of dying can cause intense fear.
The symptoms of the fear of death can come and go over a person’s lifetime. It is very natural to experience this when thinking about the death of a loved one, particularly if they suffered from a long illness. A fear of separation, dealing with loss, and, in the case of your own death, leaving your loved ones behind.
If you are preoccupied with thoughts of death and have a real intense fear of death, which is getting in the way of everyday life, then talking to a trained professional will help you.
How Hypnotherapy can help with the fear of death
Hypnotherapy is a highly effective and fast way to deal with phobias. This is because phobias are often triggered by a specific event in someone’s past, which may be something you don’t even remember consciously. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to bypass the conscious thought process and ‘talk’ directly to the subconscious, where all our fears and phobias are retained. Then, with expert guidance, it becomes possible to release these fears and make positive shifts in your subconscious mind. As a result, you will feel calmer and more in control.
Hypnotherapy is a restorative therapy that will boost your self-esteem and confidence and help you focus more on the present to form new preferable behaviours and ways of thinking.
I will teach you relaxation techniques, encourage you to practice self-care to reduce anxiety and offer guidance and reassurance during this process.
Sometimes just having someone to talk to about a subject you can’t voice to others will help you to feel more in control of that fear.
