Low Libido: How Hypnotherapy Can Help

In my work with women’s sexual health, I am becoming increasingly aware that low libido is an area where women need and desire more support. It is also something that many women don’t openly discuss, which can create a sense of being ‘on your own’ with this issue. No one really wants to confess they lack an interest in sex – it may be a topic you joke about with friends, but are you truly content and how does your partner feel? Low libido can have a profoundly negative effect on relationships.
Your libido, or sex drive, is entirely personal and can change over time. At certain stages in life, sexual desire fluctuates, with typical times being during pregnancy, post-childbirth, when sleep is disrupted, and during menopause, when women experience a dip in hormones, particularly testosterone.
Illness, chronic health conditions, and certain medications can obviously affect libido, as can stress, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, and trauma.
Signs that there could be a problem with low libido include:
- No interest in any form of intimacy, which is unusual for you.
- Not experiencing any sexual thoughts.
- Feeling worried or concerned about a lack of sex drive
- Feeling anxious if your partner shows affection towards you
- Avoiding situations that you think might lead to intimacy
I work with clients suffering from vaginismus and anorgasmia – two conditions significantly influenced by the subconscious mind, which can also affect libido. When fear, guilt, shame, and pain are present, sexual desire disappears!
How Can Hypnotherapy Help Low Libido?
Understanding the root cause of your low libido by talking to a trained professional is the first step.
Hypnotherapy engages the subconscious mind, where our fears, learned behaviours, and responses reside. Achieving fulfilling sex and sexual confidence begins in the mind. The mind is the most important organ regarding libido! During hypnosis, we can reframe your thoughts about sex, build confidence, and help you realise those goals. We can assist you in feeling less anxious and fearful by providing positive suggestions to help you focus on pleasurable thoughts, eliminate any doubts or blocks you may have, and create the sex life you desire. If you are struggling with body image or specific issues, such as vaginismus, anorgasmia, or low libido, we can help you overcome these challenges and move forward.
There are many reasons why your libido may decrease, and I do encourage all my clients to have their testosterone levels checked by their GP if they haven’t already done so. However, if any of this resonates with you and you would like some help to get your libido where you would like it to be, then do get in touch for a free 15-minute chat, and then we can book you in. All sessions are online.
