LSH blog - inner critic

We all have an inner critic, that negative voice that pops up when you least need it and always with a question. Do you think that’s a good idea? Are you sure you can do this? Surely it’s a non-starter? You know you’re not confident enough!

Does this sound familiar?!

Our brains are hardwired to react to danger and this “reptilian” part of the brain has a vital role to play in situations that could potentially be seen as a threat to us and will trigger the fight or flight response in extreme situations.

So the inner critic has a role to play and that is, to keep us safe. All our learned experiences as we grow are stored away, so there seems to be plenty of evidence when that voice pipes up with “I wouldn’t if I were you, remember what happened last time.”

How can hypnotherapy help with your inner critic?

This is where hypnotherapy can affect some change. It may well be that once when you attempted to stand up and speak in public you lost your place, dropped your cards, fluffed your lines, and retreated, but that doesn’t mean to say it will happen again.

However, your inner critic doesn’t agree and will keep up the negative narrative to stop you from ever finding out, because those feelings from years ago were extremely unpleasant… and it’s so much easier to stay in your comfort zone. But how is that comfort zone making you feel? Are you happy? Is this the life you had planned?

Hypnotherapy can help you to embrace and understand your inner critic and enable you to turn the volume down, create a new script, and start believing in yourself. This will then enable you to feel empowered in order to live your life in a way that is meaningful to you.

So why not give it a try. You could befriend that negative voice and then surprise yourself!
