Lizzie Smith Hypnotherapy - COVID-19 Anxiety Syndrome

As restrictions have pretty much disappeared now, some people are finding it very challenging to get back to mixing again and to resuming their “normal” lives, after developing COVID-19 Anxiety Syndrome (CAS).

With the opening up of society, it has become ever more apparent that for some, obsessive worrying and a fear of “mingling” again will not subside. The “fear” messaging that was adopted as a way of guaranteeing public compliance to safety precautions in the midst of the pandemic has led to an overly safe attitude for some. Most of us were on high alert initially, but now a number of people are avoiding re-engagement and constantly worrying about the virus, whether they are vaccinated or not.

I have certainly seen an uptake in appointments for anxiety and panic attacks and this has continued despite vaccines and an overall decrease in COVID-19 prevalence.

Signs of COVID-19 anxiety syndrome (CAS) are:

  • Avoidance of public places
  • Constantly checking for symptoms of COVID
  • Obsessive cleaning
  • Other maladaptive behaviours
  • General health anxiety
  • Trouble sleeping

Other contributing factors have been the constant media coverage and how facts and information have altered during the pandemic which has led to a mistrust among the public. There is still so much to learn about this virus that mutates and this has created uncertainty which can be difficult to tolerate.

How are you reacting in these unpredictable times?

How we react and respond can help us to manage feelings and regain back in control and peace of mind.

There isn’t always a right or wrong way to respond, but hypnotherapy can help you to shift your focus in order to develop resilience. It can also create optimism. When we are stressed it can depress the immune system. Hypnotherapy uses visualisation techniques which has a healing and restorative effect.

When we are fighting a personal battle with anxiety it can feel at times as though we are sinking. Hypnotherapy can help you to shift your focus and reframe your thoughts. It’s an empowering way to alleviate the symptoms of COVID-19 anxiety syndrome and develop strength during these challenging times.
